If you see someone comment “bro is bricked up” under a funny video or meme, they are usually making a sexual joke. Bricked up slang meaning most often refers to a male having an erection.
The phrase is informal, blunt, and often used for humor in online conversations. The meaning can change with context, though. People may use bricked up to joke about physical arousal, while the same words can describe a wall or doorway sealed with bricks.
The phrase also appears in searches about memes, phones, clothing, and constipation, but those uses do not all share the same meaning. Knowing what the conversation is about helps you understand the phrase correctly.
Quick Answer
“Bricked up” is slang that usually means having an erection. It often appears in jokes, memes, and casual online chats. In other contexts, it can mean blocked with bricks or refer to a device that has become unusable, so the surrounding words matter.
What Does “Bricked Up” Mean for a Guy?
When used about a guy, bricked up usually means he has an erection. People may say it as a direct description, but in everyday online conversation it is often an exaggerated joke about someone finding a person or character attractive.
Example: “He saw his celebrity crush and got bricked up.”
This suggests physical arousal, though a speaker might be exaggerating for comic effect. It does not necessarily mean the person is in love or wants a relationship. The phrase is sexual slang, so it may feel embarrassing or inappropriate if used about someone without their consent.
Bricked Up Meme Meaning
A bricked up meme usually jokes that someone is sexually aroused. The phrase is often paired with an exaggerated facial expression, an attractive character, or a funny reaction image.
For example, a meme might show someone staring at a favorite fictional character with the caption, “Bro is bricked up again.”
The joke relies on exaggeration and awkward humor. It does not necessarily claim that the person in the image is actually aroused. The phrase gained online visibility after rapper Jack Harlow used it in a 2020 Genius video, although that does not establish when the expression was first used.
Bricked Up App Meaning
“Bricked up app” does not have one established slang meaning. The phrase may be a search for an app with that name, an app-related meme, or a discussion of the slang expression.
If you saw it inside a particular app, the surrounding post or screen matters. In a meme or chat, bricked up most likely carries its usual sexual meaning. In a phone troubleshooting discussion, bricked usually means that a device has become unusable.
Do not assume that every app mentioning the phrase has a special definition. If you share the app name or the sentence where you saw it, the intended meaning can be narrowed down.
Bricked Up Meaning for a Girl
When someone says a girl is “bricked up,” they may be using the phrase jokingly to suggest sexual arousal or strong attraction. However, the common slang meaning specifically refers to a male having an erection, so applying it to a girl is usually humorous, exaggerated, or context-dependent.
For example, “She said that actor has her bricked up” might be a playful way of expressing attraction. It does not mean the phrase has a separate, widely established definition for women.
If someone uses it about a girl, look at the full sentence rather than assuming it is a literal description. It can also be an unwanted sexual comment, depending on who says it and how it is directed.
Bricked Up Shirt Meaning
A shirt printed with the words “bricked up” is usually using the phrase as a joke or an internet-culture reference. The wording may be intended to get a laugh from people who recognize the sexual slang.
The shirt itself does not give the phrase a new definition. Its meaning depends on the design, image, or other words printed alongside it.
Because the phrase is sexually suggestive, a shirt featuring it may not be suitable for every school, workplace, family event, or public setting. Check the audience and dress expectations before wearing it.
Bricked Up Phone Meaning
In technology, a bricked phone is a phone that has become unusable or fails to start properly, sometimes after a failed update or software modification. This is different from the sexual slang meaning of bricked up.
For example:
- “The update bricked my phone.” means the update caused the phone to stop working properly.
- “My phone is bricked.” means the phone is no longer functioning as expected.
In this context, bricked is the usual term. “Bricked up phone” may simply be an imprecise way of referring to a bricked device. It has nothing to do with sexual arousal.
Bricked Up Meaning: Constipated
In some informal usage, bricked up can mean constipated, or having difficulty passing stool. This is a less common meaning than the sexual slang and is not the meaning to assume in a typical meme or flirtatious chat.
For example, “I’ve been bricked up all day” could refer to constipation if the conversation is about digestion or going to the bathroom.
Context makes the difference. If someone is talking about physical attraction, the sexual meaning is more likely. If they are discussing digestive problems, the less common meaning may fit.
Bricked Up in Text Messages
In text messages, bricked up usually refers to having an erection. People often use it as a joke, a teasing comment, or an exaggerated reaction to someone they find attractive.
Examples:
- “Bro is bricked up 😂” — The sender is joking that someone has an erection.
- “That actor got me bricked up.” — The speaker is making a sexual comment about finding the actor attractive.
- “Why are you bricked up over a cartoon?” — The sender is teasing someone for expressing sexual attraction to a fictional character.
The phrase is informal and sexually suggestive. If you receive it and are unsure how the sender means it, the surrounding conversation usually offers the best clue.
Bricked Up Meaning on TikTok
On TikTok, the phrase is often used in comments, reaction videos, and memes to make an exaggerated joke about sexual arousal. It may refer to a celebrity, a fictional character, or a scene in a video.
For example, someone might comment “bricked up” under a video featuring an attractive actor. The comment is usually suggestive or humorous rather than a serious statement.
There is no need to assume it has a different meaning on TikTok from other online spaces. The familiar sexual meaning generally applies unless the video is clearly about construction, a broken device, or another topic.
Is “Bricked Up” Rude or Inappropriate?
The phrase is sexual slang, so it can sound crude or uncomfortable in some situations. Close friends may use it jokingly, but that does not mean everyone will welcome it.
- With close friends: It may be understood as teasing or humor.
- In public comments: It can sound sexual or disrespectful, especially when directed at a real person.
- At school or work: It is usually best avoided.
- With someone you do not know well: It may come across as intrusive.
If you want a less explicit way to describe attraction, phrases such as “they find that person attractive” or “they’re turned on” may fit, depending on the situation.
Bricked Up vs. Similar Slang
These expressions are related to attraction or arousal, but they do not mean exactly the same thing.
| Term | Meaning | Main difference |
|---|---|---|
| Bricked up | Usually having an erection | Refers to a physical state |
| Horny | Feeling sexually aroused | Describes sexual desire |
| Turned on | Feeling sexually stimulated | Can describe a feeling or reaction |
| Down bad | Strongly attracted to someone or desperate for their attention | Often suggests intense interest or longing |
| Thirsty | Eager for attention or romantic or sexual interest | Can describe attention-seeking behavior |
For example, someone can be down bad for a celebrity without being physically aroused. Bricked up is more specific and usually carries a sexual meaning.
Where Did “Bricked Up” Come From?
The exact origin of the sexual slang is uncertain. The phrase became more visible online after rapper Jack Harlow discussed it while explaining his lyrics in a Genius “Verified” video in February 2020. That video is a documented example of its public use, but it does not prove he invented the expression.
The phrase also has older literal uses. To brick up a doorway or window means to close the opening with bricks. The sexual slang is a separate, informal use of the same words.
